Campfires at the CabinAS OF JULY 2, 2021 - DUE TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER, NO CAMPFIRES ALLOWED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. As you know, wildfires are a major threat in California. To legally have a campfire at the cabin, you need both the owner's written permission (this is your permission) and a California Campfire Permit. The permit is very easy to get at http://permit.preventwildfiresca.org/. You will enter your information, watch a quick 2.5 minute video, and take a quiz. Once issued, your permit is good until the end of the calendar year. Please follow these rules to keep you and our neighbors safe. Only burn in the firepit below the garage. You will see it surrounded by rocks. Make sure it's not too windy Clear a 10-foot diameter area around the pit down to the dirt, removing anything that could catch on fire. After lighting, throw the match into the fire. Never leave a campfire unattended; an adult should supervise the campfire at all times. Keep a garden hose and shovel nearby. Both are under the deck at the main entry side. Never put anything but wood into the fire. Do not pull sticks out of the fire. When it's time to put the fire out, use the garden hose to thoroughly soak it. Stir it with a shovel, and dump more water on it. Make sure it is COLD before leaving it unsupervised. Building a fire: Place a small pile of dried pine needles at the center of the fire pit Collect sticks from around the property and place on top of the pine needles Place larger sticks on top and Finally large logs if desired Light the pine needles Huge sugar pine cones are great burners, but please only burn one at a time or the flames will grow too tall.
